We are so pleased to help financially support the care of FIFO a female 2 year old chimpanzee - but its thanks to the kindness of our customers switching to life lasting metal straws. Not only are you reducing your plastic footprint - you are helping with the rescue and care of an endangered species.
Fifo was confiscated from a farmer in the Pujehun District after being held as an illegal pet for four months. Her former 'owner' claims the group of chimps invaded his crops at the back of his yard. His dogs attacked the group and Fifos mother climbed up a tree and left her baby sadly behind. The baby chimp was captured and fed on papaya and rice.
Luckily the farmers driver shared this information with his brother who contacted Tacugama and Fifo was rescued in November 2018. Fifo arrived malnourished and scared but after many hours of love and comfort from her surrogate mother, Mama Posseh, Fifo started gaining confidence.
Despite her traumatic first year, Fifo is adjusting to life at the sanctuary. She has been introduced to the other orphans that have arrived at Tacugama around the same time as she did. She can often be found climbing trees and playing with Caesar (her best friend) and Flavour!
Without your continue support in purchasing our eco friendly metal straws - it would not be possible for us to help sponsor and adopt these beautiful creatures. I would like to personally thank you also on behalf of the Tacugama Sanctuary - they too are forever grateful.
